S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival is the St. Catharines Event for New music Entertainment, a locally based independent music festival that started as a showcase for local talent. While still having a strong focus on Niagara-based independent acts, as the first S.C.E.N.E. did with 20 local acts on three stages in 1995, S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival has exploded with numbers and diversity. S.C.E.N.E., going into its 15th year, is one of Canada’s largest independent music festivals, attracting over 6000 fans to downtown St. Catharines each year.
The first S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival, started back in 1995 by Cashmere, lead singer for now defunct Revenge of The Egg People, a very popular local act, as a way for local unsigned bands to get exposure. It has now become one of “THE” summer destinations for music fans. The S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival through its history has brought fans from all over Canada and the United States.
S.C.E.N.E. features over 180 bands on multiple stages and venues. Talent is comprised of national, international and local acts spanning a range of genres including pop, hip-hop, reggae, ska, celtic, country, folk, queer, punk, metal, funk, emo, and rock ‘n’ roll, that showcase the best and brightest stars.
S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival has provided a vital springboard for such artists as Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Silverstein, City & Colour, Midway State, Ill Scarlet, The Mahones, Cancer Bats, Bedouin Soundclash, USS, Neverending White Lights, and Jason Collett (Broken Social Scene).
Along with the music, the Market Square Pavilion hosts the festival headquarters offering a variety of activities, demos and merchandising from festival partners, vendors and local artisans. S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival is one of the largest and most anticipated one-day, all-ages, independent music festivals in Canada, truly capturing and celebrating the spirit of independent music
